under the weather favorites

Olivia is finally over the cold + cough she has had the past two weeks so I wanted to share some of the items that we rely on when Olivia is feeling under the weather.
Nosefrida [Snot Sucker + Nasal Aspirator] // If you haven't heard of this, you are bound to at some point -- this is one of the most talked about baby items out there right now. In our childbirth classes last spring it was brought up and as I heard more about it, I was pretty weirded out at the concept. But after trying (and failing) to use a bulb syringe to clear Olivia during her 1st cold last fall, I was willing to try anything. For the first few days, I just couldn't get over how weird it was and my husband did it all. Then finally one day he was at work and Olivia was so stuffy I just knew I had to try it. It is so easy to use and it does an amazing job! Olivia went from stuffy to clear within minutes. It is so easy to clean and 100% hygienic -- the filters can be thrown out and replaced with each use so you can ensure no germs are sitting in it. It is much more effective and sanitary than a simple bulb syringe. It is doctor-invented and doctor-recommended and although it's pretty weird, it works so well that I'll never think twice about using it again. Learn more about the Nosefrida here.

Simply Saline Nasal Gel Moisturizer // When a baby is sneezing, coughing and has a stuffy nose, their skin gets so dry, especially around their nostrils. Dry skin can be uncomfortable and even irritating, so we use a little of this a few times a day under her nose to keep it moisturized. Available here.

Boogie Wipes // We keep these in every room when Olivia has the sniffles. They are perfect for wiping her nose without drying out her skin like a traditional kleenex would because of the light moisture that comes from the saline. They come in a few scents but our favorite is Unscented or Fresh Scent. You can go to their website here and get a coupon for $1.25 off any product!

Aquaphor // This is a product we love all the time but especially when Olivia is under the weather. It is great for dry skin and the best protection on her little bum to prevent diaper rash. Available here.

Thermometer // I recommend a thermometer that works quickly with a light-up digital display and large numbers for night-time use. This is our axillary thermometer and I use it on a regular basis when Olivia isn't feeling well. It works within seconds so even when V squirms, I get a quick (8 second) reading! Available here.

Mustela Facial Cleansing Cloths // I love every Mustela item, but these cleansing cloths are one of my favorites! They are a perfect way to clean Olivia's face when she wakes up from a nap or in the morning. Being sick is tough for babies and in the morning, she doesn't always get a bath first thing, so I wipe her face and nose with this and it freshens her up (plus she smells amazing)! Every few months they go on sale at Babies R Us and are BOGO, so I stock up! Available here.

Babyganics Eczema Cream // Olivia's skin has gone through various dry periods throughout the winter, and when she is sick it seems to be worse. I love this cream when she gets dry spots on her back and neck. Made with colloidal oatmeal to provide soothing relief and natural plant-based ingredients, this cream goes above and beyond all other eczema creams to be gentle on your babe's skin. Available here.

Cetaphil // This is a great way to keep a baby's skin moisturized no matter the weather. After baths, I rub this everywhere (other than her face) and it really soothes and smooths her skin. I love the smell of it and it is a great way to pamper V with a little extra comforting massage. Available here.

California Baby Calendula Cream // This is my top baby product of all time -- it works wonders on even the driest skin. I primarily use this on Olivia's face, especially when she has been teething & drooling and her cheeks and chin are extra chapped. It smells phenomenal (can you tell I like how things smell?) and again, is made with only natural ingredients. Within hours of using this cream, Olivia's skin is completely softened and all the redness has subsided. I will forever have a jar of this on hand and it is my go-to cream for any & every skin issue! Available here.

  1. We used J&J Baby Vapor wash with Jase when he had his first cold. I sat in the shower with him and let the steam help him breathe and washed him with that. There was always a huge difference the second day! Thanks for sharing girl!
